Island Stewardship Honours Announced

Gulf Islands Driftwood, Wednesday, September 29, 2004

Individuals and groups from Salt Spring and Galiano islands were given the 2004 Islands Trust Community Stewardship Awards, following deliberations at Trust Council's quarterly meeting on Bowen Island.

Council decided to give the group awards to the Island Stream and Salmon Enhancement Society for its watershed and stream restoration work and to Salt Spring Residents for Responsible Land Use for its work in the preservation of Walker Hook.

The individual category awards go to Ken Millard of Galiano Island for his ongoing work as the director of the Galiano Conservancy, and to Tom Gossett of Salt Spring for his many years of watershed protection work.

Stewardship awards acknowledging community members support of the Islands Trust preserve and protect mandate have been granted for the past three years.
